March 2025 - Newsletter

Reminder of Important Dates in March

  • Tuesday, 4th March – Robinstown NS will be closed. However, since ECCE will still take place in Little Robins, we will only be able to take afterschool children from 12:00 pm.

  • Thursday, 6th March – World Book Day
Instead of putting financial pressure on parents for costumes, we are having a cosy day! Whatever you classify as cosy will be brilliant – even pyjamas are perfect. The children can also bring in their favourite book to read and share with their friends. Please ensure all books are labelled to avoid any mix-ups.

  • Friday, 14th March – St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
We will be celebrating by having a Green Day! All children are encouraged to wear the colour green to mark the occasion.

  • Monday, 17th March – Closed for St. Patrick’s Day

  • Thursday, 21st March – World Down Syndrome Day
This year’s theme is “End the Stereotypes”, focusing on living life with no judgment. To celebrate this day, we invite everyone to wear odd socks as a symbol of inclusion and awareness.

  • Tuesday, 2nd April – World Autism Awareness Day
This is a day to celebrate and accept differences. We encourage everyone to join in and wear the colour blue to mark the occasion.

Healthy Eating Reminder

A gentle reminder that Little Robins follows a healthy eating policy. On Fridays, children may have a small treat in their lunchboxes, but we require healthy eating throughout the rest of the week.

Some healthy snack ideas include:
✔ Sandwiches
✔ Crackers
✔ Rice cakes
✔ Yogurt
✔ Fruit
✔ Cheese
✔ Fruit bars

Please ensure your child’s lunch remains nutritious and balanced.

Exciting News – Incredible Edibles!

The Blue Room Preschool has been taking part in Incredible Edibles, an experience-based healthy eating programme for children. This involves the children actively participating in growing their own fruit and vegetables, learning where food comes from, and developing a deeper understanding of nutrition.

This is an exciting project for all our preschoolers, and we can’t wait to see what they grow!

Kind Regards,
Little Robins LTD

January & February 2025 - Newsletter

We would like to wish everyone a very happy 2025.

Activities and Themes

January can be a very long and hard month for some, but in Little Robins, we have been very occupied doing loads of crafts to keep us all busy and kicking off the new year.

In the preschool rooms, we focused on the weather, as we had many different forms of weather happening in such a short time. This led the children to have lots of questions and curiosity about the weather. We discussed different types of weather and what they may mean, and the children even got to learn how rainbows are made. We did many crafts based on the most common weather we see in Ireland, such as raindrops, clouds, and a little bit of sun. The children really enjoyed learning about the different classifications of weather.

The Afterschool groups have also been busy focusing on the weather.
The Green Room has focused on birds, with the children getting very involved by making and designing their own birdhouses. They have also focused on dinosaurs, as it has become a big interest in the room. Doing all of these fun activities has kept us engaged and occupied throughout January.

For the first two weeks of February, all rooms have been focused on Valentine’s Day, so hopefully, everyone will receive some beautiful artwork at home for Valentine’s.

Parent Participation

We were so lucky to have Angela, a parent from the Yellow Room, come in and pay us a visit. The children were thrilled to see one of their friend’s parents in the room. Angela has an amazing job, and she got to discuss this with all the children. She even brought in some colouring, sticking, and gluing activities related to her job, which the children really enjoyed. They were so interested because it was all so new to them. Thank you again, Angela, for paying us a little visit.

We also had Paddy, a parent from the Blue Room, come in and read us all a story. The children had an amazing time listening to Paddy’s storytelling skills. It made them so happy to see a parent in the room, and it was so exciting. They all had a fabulous time interacting, discussing, and chatting with Paddy about the story. Thank you so much, Paddy, for coming into our service.

If anyone would like to come in and be involved in a little activity within the service, please let me know. It is a great way to spread a sense of community and partnership. We would appreciate all visits, and the children would be over the moon!

December 2024 - Newsletter

Christmas Focused

  • Last month of the year 2024 is going to be a busy month, and we have a lot of exciting things to look forward to.
  • To start December off to a very festive month, it is National Christmas Jumper Day in support of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice on the 6th of December. This is a link to donate: https://www.idonate.ie/wl/fundraiser/LittleRobinsLTD1.
  • We will be doing a raffle to raise money for children’s hospitals. We will start collecting money on the 2nd of December: €10 for one line and €20 for two lines. This raffle is cash only. The raffle will take place on Thursday, the 12th of December. This raffle includes amazing prizes such as afternoon tea vouchers, a spa package, play centre vouchers, and chocolate hampers.
  • For the Christmas break, we will be closed from Friday, the 20th of December, and reopening on Monday, the 6th of January. We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and hope Santa is good to everyone. We would also like to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2025.

Staff Leaving

  • Unfortunately, Emma has decided not to return after her maternity leave finishes. She has decided to spend some extra time with her beautiful baby girl. We would all like to wish her the best in all her life will bring to her in the future.
  • We would also like to wish Ciara, who has been working in the Green Room, the very best of luck on her travels. Ciara is going travelling and then moving to Australia. We hope she has an amazing time and enjoys every bit of her new experiences ahead.

A Warm Welcome

We would all like to say a happy hello to Lynn, who has started here in Little Robins. She has started in the Green Room, working alongside Lauren.

Parent Participation

Parent participation is the active involvement of parents in the service. We would really appreciate it if any parents could come into the service and do an activity with the children. This can be related to your job, such as a doctor coming in and discussing with the children how important it is to keep fit and healthy. Or it could just be as simple as coming in and reading a book to the children. This would be highly appreciated, and all the children would be delighted. If you are interested in knowing more or looking to take part, please get in contact with management to discuss dates, times, etc.

General Reminders

  • A reminder that we do not allow any toys or teddies from home into Little Robins, as we do not want any child(ren) to lose or break any personal items. If your child(ren) have a comforter, that is allowed.
  • Please ensure to send all messages and questions regarding children on our Childpaths app. Everyone should have a Childpaths login; if not, please ask a member of staff, and we will resolve this problem. Using the app means staff in the room will see the message and will reply as soon as possible.
  • Please ensure all hats, scarves, and gloves are labeled with your child(ren)’s name, as many children have the same ones, and they can easily get lost or taken home by mistake.
  • Please be careful in the car park as the frosty weather is coming in. We salt it every morning, but please be extra mindful, take it easy, and stay safe.

We all in Little Robins hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and that Santa is good to everyone. We will see you all in the new year.

Kind Regards,
All the staff at Little Robins.

November 2024 - Newsletter

We hope everyone had an amazing Halloween and mid-term break and is now ready for the last term of 2024. We all have a busy few weeks ahead of us.

For the month of November, all preschool rooms are going to focus on road safety and being aware while on the roads. This is very important information for all children to know and be aware of, especially since our nights have got so dark. This will be a focus for November.

There is also a very important date to remember in November. On November 22nd, it is National Pyjama Day, and we will be celebrating this day in Little Robins 😊.

In Little Robins, we encourage real-life role play. This enhances children’s imagination and creative skills. It also allows for confidence to grow and develop, improves communication skills, and supports emotional development. To help develop this, we are asking if anyone has any old phones, hair dryers, mirrors, hats, scarves, handbags, etc., could you please drop them into us so we can use them in our rooms to allow our role-play fun to expand.

Some gentle reminders:

  • While parking in the car park, please be aware of your surroundings. Ensure you are not blocking any entrances, yellow boxes, or another car.
  • Please ensure you know your child’s password for when someone different is collecting your child. This password was on a form that was given at the beginning of your child starting in Little Robins. If you have forgotten the password, please ask a member of staff, and we will be able to remind you.
  • Please make sure to label all children’s clothing to reduce the risk of losing them or being sent home with the wrong child.

Kind Regards,
All the staff at Little Robins 😊

Meet the Educators of Little Robins

Name: Orla Reilly
Position: Owner
I opened Little Robins in 2017 with 4 children in the service. Since then, we have expanded into a thriving service with 90 children attending every week. I have 16 years of experience working in childcare and hold a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Early Childhood Education as well as a Certificate in Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years. I have also completed numerous CPD workshops such as Aistear and Play & Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.

My three children keep my evenings and weekends busy and entertaining! We love family days out and making memories. I hope you will agree that we have a fantastic team here in Little Robins, and I am very grateful to the team for all the hard work they put in to support the children as they grow.

My goal for Little Robins is always to ensure the children have fun while learning. We follow a child-led curriculum and encourage the children to be part of the planning so that all their ideas and interests merge into our activities. I am looking forward to the year ahead and seeing all the familiar faces while welcoming all the new families starting their educational adventures with us.

Name: Sarah M
Position: Manager
Hi, my name is Sarah, and I am the manager here at Little Robins. I have a Level 8 Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Teaching and Learning, as well as the LINC (Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years) award.

I have over 6 years of experience working with children aged from 6 months to 12 years in childcare. I love helping and supporting children to grow, develop, and reach their milestones. My hobbies include relaxing, going on adventures, and having fun with my two nephews.

Name: Richard
Position: ECCE Blue Room Leader
As preschool has begun, and I am starting to get to know your children and, in turn, you—their grown-ups—I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. It’s only fair, as your children will also share many stories about their families, including some embarrassing anecdotes!

My name is Richard, although most children prefer to call me Rich, and I’m happy to respond to both. Before becoming an Early Years teacher, I was a stay-at-home dad for eight years, caring for two very boisterous boys. During that time, I had the opportunity to study, completing a BA Honours in Early Childhood Teaching and Learning in 2022 and achieving First-Class Honours in Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years in 2023. This year, I am starting a Master’s in Early Childhood Studies, and I’m thrilled to expand my knowledge and understanding of early childhood.

I am a huge advocate for outdoor play and firmly believe there’s no such thing as bad weather—just inappropriate clothing! I’ll foster your children’s natural curiosity with plenty of outdoor exploration, messy play, and sensory learning opportunities. Most importantly, I want your children to be happy and confident in their preschool classroom while building friendships.
